Ashurism was a religion that was practiced by the ancient Assyrians. It was one of the first mono-polytheistic religions because although it had many gods and goddesses, Ashur was the one that looked over and controlled the rest. The god is derived from the Sumerian god AS.SHAR, where AS means heaven and SHAR meaning whole.a Ashurism can be seen in the roots of Zoroastrianism and other Proto-Indo European religions as well.
